You want anything to grow, you have to have decent soil. There is a major environmental concern about the lack of decent topsoil as we continue to make huge demands of it through aggressive and intensive agricultural practices. As a result the land that is available for the growing of crops and for pastureland, is diminishing and in Africa it is a real crisis that has created several famines. Therefore, to avoid this, there is an emphasis on trying to reclaim land to increase the amount available.
It falls to a Soil Remediation Company like the one in the link to try and regain the land from the damage done to it. Heavy metals, concrete, cement dust, asbestos, all of these can end up in the soil and will pollute anything that tries to grow or render it useless. The process of removing this soil is difficult but it can be achieved.
It is taken away and then cleaned through a process of oxygenation or it is removed completely and replaced with new soil. This process can mean that the land can be used again for growing or for allowing human habitation. It means that we can now look at changing brownfield sites back to something that we can use rather than just be left fallow and useless.
With the pressure on land for development this has to be the answer that planners and those looking to provide affordable housing need.
